What Does a Mobile Patrol Supervisor for Cosmo Security Solutions Daily Routine Entail?

July 19th 2010

Whether You are thinking about About Employing a Security Firm to Safeguard Your Business Buildings or Looking for More Detail on Mobile Patrols – Take a Look at the Daily Duties of a Mobile Supervisor.

Mobile Security Patrols Checking Building Security

The patrols can either be a daily occurrence for an occupied building which does not have static guarding, out-of- hours or is simply an unoccupied building. Some unoccupied building patrols might be weekly as the client needs to know their premises are in good order to satisfy their insurers, and utility consumption needs to be monitored. He will also perform escorts, a late night chemists needs his welfare catered for.

Key holding contracts are mostly for alarm response but other reasons can be to allow a contractor access during out-of-hours or maybe a lift entrapment needs to be dealt with. These can be time consuming as on occasion an engineer needs to attend and the Supervisor must remain on site otherwise some alarms will activate simultaneously or in quick succession and therefore causes havoc with the patrol schedules.

As most Site Supervisors work the day shift, the Mobile Supervisor is responsible for the out-of-hour’s shifts. He will visit the sites to ensure the high standards expected by our clients are maintained and contractual requirements are met. He is also there to help an officer if he is experiencing difficulty on his site, either to advise or attend if required. He will escalate any issues to the Duty Manager.

He is the first point of contact for the Control Room if an officer misses a check call and they cannot make contact. If the Mobile Supervisor cannot make contact himself he must attend site to ensure the officer’s welfare. As we all know, the check calls are in place for the lone worker to ensure their health & safety!

Cosmo Security Solutions Announce Arrival of Employee Information Portal Service Called “Tell Me”

July 16th 2010

Cosmo Security Solutions are pleased to announce the arrival of an Employee Information Portal Service called “Tell Me”.

Employee Information Portal Service called Tell MeThe “Tell Me” service portal has been designed to communicate messages, rosters and duty schedules to all employees within the company easily, accurately and by the fastest means possible.

Traditionally, schedule information has been passed via telephone calls to individual officers or periodic posting of duty schedules, both methods being time-consuming and expensive.

Benefits include:

● Employees can use their mobile phones, PDA’s, I-Phones or home computers and laptops to access the portal with minimal instruction beyond the internet address they would need to visit, which can of course be linked from the company’s website.

● Management can choose to display either duty schedules only or to include pay rates also that apply on a shift by shift basis.

● Each employee will have their own unique log on username and password which will grant them access to their own duty schedules only.

● A full record of all schedule views is maintained so management will know when an employee has viewed his/her roster or any message and when. There will be no claiming “I didn’t see it”.

● Employees viewing their schedule can be presented with a message of the day broadcast to all staff or individual messages tailored to specific employees or all employees working on a specific assignment.

Latest Electronic Gate Death is a Warning that Owners should be Reviewing the Safety of their Electronic Gate Systems

July 6th 2010

Spot where Girl was crushed to death by electronic gatesA five-year-old girl has been killed after becoming caught in an automatic sliding gate outside an apartment building

Emergency services were rushed to Brook Court, Bridgend in south Wales, on Saturday afternoon.

The black metal gate is located at the entrance of the residents’ car park of the 3-storey apartment block.

The girl, whose family lives close by, is believed to be eastern European. Relatives are understood to be too upset to talk to reporters.

South Wales Police have announced she was taken to the town’s Princess of Wales Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
A full scale investigation is under way.

The accident is the latest in a long line of accidents involving electronic gates after the death last Monday of a six-year-old.

The girl, Semelia Campbell was playing with a friend near her home on Carnival Place, Moss Side, Manchester, when the electronic gate closed on her.

Police eventually freed the schoolgirl when they broke off an electronic box controlling the gate.

After being rushed to Manchester Royal Infirmary, she died from her injuries a short while later.

Review the safety of your electronic gate systems to comply with health and safety regulations and laws to improve the overall safety on your building site grounds.

Call: 0845 862 2333 for expert advice on the most suitable electronic gate systems for your business premises.

TAG Industry News: Boy Crushed to Death by a Gate – 2 Companies Found Not Guilty of Health and Safety Breaches

July 5th 2010

A Nine Year Old Outside the Orchard Flats in Poole in 2006, Jason Keet, was Trapped Between the Gate and a Pillar

Electric Gate Services Ltd, the gate installer, and the flats contractor Pearlview Estates Ltd were cleared of a Health and Safety at Work Act charge.

Faulkner Gates Ltd, the company who manufactured the gates, will be sentenced in March after admitting a similar charge earlier.

The young boy was visiting his grandparents who lived at the luxury flats, when the incident happened in April 2006, Bournemouth Crown Court heard.

Jurors heard how he had reached between the entrance gate and the pillar to press a button and as the gates opened he became trapped and later died.

Prosecutor, Charles Parry, alleged “no formal risk assessment was made at any stage of the design and construction of the gate”.

He claimed that the design of the gates was “haphazard”, “didn’t comply with regulations” and was “done on the hoof”.

The court heard the gates have since been rebuilt, Since Jason’s death.

This suggests ALL owners of electric gates should be reviewing their safety devices to ensure they are up to date with the regulations.

Cosmo’s Three Peaks Challenge Charity Event 2010

July 1st 2010

Details:
The 3 Peaks Challenge comprises of Ben Nevis (1,344m, Scotland), Scafell Pike (978m, Lake District, England) and Snowdon (1,085m, Wales). Teams aim to complete the three highest mountains in Britain in one go in less than 24 hours, travelling between sites by mini bus. The terrain, sleep deprivation, tiredness and exhaustion make this challenge one of the hardest ever attempted by Cosmo Group.

The clock starts at the foot of Ben Nevis on the West coast of the Scottish Highlands and stops on the summit of the last mountain Mt. Snowdon in Wales. Cosmo took part in this to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity that provides a range of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families.

Quick Facts about the 3 Peaks Challenge:

  • 3000m of ascent
  • 27 miles of gruelling fast paced walking/ jogging
  • Over 500 miles of driving
  • All in under 24 hours!

Cosmo’s Three Peaks Diary

Monday 21st June 2010 – Graham Cameron (Driver/Navigator/Nanny) is ready to leave the Peterborough office in our mini bus full of all the team members’ kit and heads for Inverness, where he will pick up both teams on Tuesday morning.

Tuesday morning – the team arrive at Inverness airport and are met by Graham and hastily transported on a 2 hour journey south to Fort William for the team briefing with the event organisers and also prepare their kit bags.

Tuesday 18:00 – arrival at the starting point at the foot of Ben Nevis eagerly awaiting the start of the first ascent. A warm evening with some light cloud closing in on the summit.

18:15 – The first team get under way, followed at 18:25 by the second team.

Both teams arrive back at base and some of the insane members indulge in the open air plunge pool! (The Environmental Agency are hot on the trail).

Team Cosmo leave the Ben at 23:00 after a quick bbq (and swim for those mad enough) and head South to England and The Lake District.

Wednesday 05:00 – we arrive at Scarfell Pike after what felt like 6 days rather than 6 hours on the road and not a lot of sleep been had. Weather dry at ground level, however very low heavy cloud encompassed Scarfell and its neighbours. The team were tired, feet blistered, muscles aching and looking up at what was to follow with some apprehension, but still set off with a strong will and fast pace!

08:00 – After some very welcome bacon rolls and some first aid on feet and muscles, it’s back on the road again and heading South for Wales (via some very precarious single track roads through the Lakes).

14:00 – Last check point at Snowdon, weather very warm with high level cloud, not looking too bad (oh how that was to change); the teams set of on the final challenge and still with a spring in their step!

15:30 – COMPLETED!!!!!! Both teams arrive back after battling through some very bad conditions towards the summit when it was shrouded in cloud and rain. However a resounding cheer went up and congratulations given out all round when they found out both had achieved sub-20 hour times (time taken off by marshals’ due to inspections and stoppages). One of the team completes the challenge in 18 hours 53 minutes! They proudly show off their Gold Medals – Well done guys!

19:00 – It’s back to a local hotel for some proper home cooked food, washed down by lots of lemonade!!!!! Then BED and a well earned sleep before the 5 hour journey back to Peterborough the following morning.

The End (but what lies in store for the next challenge – watch this space).
